Longtime St. Louis music fans will have a ball playing "six degrees of separation" with the veteran lineup of the Incurables. Behind the mike is Jimmy Griffin, whose band Kingofthehill had a major-label ride in the early '90s before grunge obliterated everything else. Griffin, who served more recently as a guitarist in Nadine, is backed by bassist Jason Hutto (Phonocaptors), guitarists Bryan Hoskins and Jordan Heimburger (Red Eyed Driver) and drummer Joe Meyer (TripDaddys). Together, they have fashioned a charming and memorable debut, a pop-rock gem titled "Songs for a Blackout." From the easy lope of the road song "Lucky 7's" ("somewhere down the highway/ where the lights twist and burn into the night") to the Beatlesque trance of "The Last Day of the Rest of Your Life," the CD offers track after track of incurably melodic, hook-laden music and sharp lyrics.
